Our 100% wild Tussar silk stoles are hand-woven by our partner artisans using a type of silk that is still little known in Europe: Tussar, a wild silk harvested directly from the forest, from cocoons that do not come from farmed silkworms. Its fibres, which are shorter and more irregular than those of traditional mulberry silk, give it unique, raw, golden sheens, as well as a lively texture that feels almost raw to the touch — a world away from the smooth, uniform silk that usually springs to mind. To understand what sets Tussar apart from the other silks we work with, see our guide to types of silk and their characteristics.
This stole is designed for those who appreciate fabrics with character: each piece retains the natural irregularities of the fibre, evidence of authentic, non-standardised artisanal weaving. If you like this raw texture, do also take a look at our Tussar silk stoles, embellished with patterns, in our Collection Tussar Silk Eco Printing and our Collection Tussar Silk Block Printing, both are hand-woven and hand-printed using traditional Indian techniques.
For an even more exquisite material with deeper golden highlights, discover our Muga Silk Collection, a rare wild silk unique to Assam and considered one of the most luxurious in the world.
At Tohora, we import this silk directly from India, ensuring traceability and fair pay for the artisan weavers who keep this craft alive.
