Rare Hand-Woven Silk for Creators & Designers | Tohora
As a seeker of exceptional hand-woven silks, I wanted to capture the essence of my first journey within the most prestigious Geographical Indications in the world of textile design. India stood out as the obvious choice: it is the only place in the world where all the other ‘royal’ silks – Mulberry, Eri, Tussar and the supreme Muga silk, which cannot be found elsewhere in this form – are found in one place. From this exceptional region, I bring back to Luxembourg truly exquisite fabrics, available by the metre in a private showroom by appointment, for fashion designers, interior designers and artists from Europe and the United Kingdom seeking something unique.
Set sail with Tohora – Why the whale?
Tohora is the Polynesian name for the whale, guide of the oceans and a symbol of wisdom and protection. Like the whale, the house travels in search of craftsmanship, bringing back hand-woven silk treasures steeped in history.
Mulberry silk, Eri ‘silk of peace’, light Tussar silk, regal Muga silk: each tells the story of an age-old craft, that of the artisans who have captured the very essence of the land and the oceans.
In Polynesia, the whale is not just a majestic animal; it is a link between humankind and the universe.
